Microsoft Azure warns of growing Killnet DDoS attack against healthcare

The pro-Russian hacking group KillNet, which is launching its campaign against countries supporting Ukraine, is ramping up its daily Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against healthcare organizations.

Microsoft’s Azure Network Security released an overview of the group’s attack patterns based on recent campaigns and found that the number of daily DDoS attacks, known as a type of cyber attack that can slow down systems by sending too many connection requests to a server , used against. Azure healthcare organizations saw 40-60 attacks per day in February, compared to 10-20 attacks per day in November last year.

Organizations affected by the attacks ranged from pharmaceutical companies to hospitals, health insurance and health services, according to the brief, which included data on how organizations can protect themselves and their customers moving forward; considering practices, ensure it is protected before an attack occurs, create a DDoS response plan, seek help during an attack, and learn and adapt after an attack.”

While KillNet’s attacks have not done much to significantly disrupt any of the organizations targeted thus far, there is potential for the group to become more dangerous. The group’s focus on critical infrastructure makes it essential that organizations take the necessary steps to protect against future DDoS campaigns, Azure warned.
